(he/him)

I’m a PhD student in Statistics at the University of St Andrews working on applied statistical methods for ecological data. I have a background in Biology (BSc) and Statistical Ecology (MSc) and have always been passionate about ecology and conservation. Over time, I have become more interested in the challenges of analysing complex and messy ecological datasets.
I transitioned to an MSc in Statistical Ecology after realising advanced statistical methods are essential for addressing challenges such as detectability, missing data, and observer bias in ecological research.
I’m particularly interested in the intersection between statistics, ecology, and philosophy, and how we can combine statistical methods and ethical tools to guide conservation decisions that are not only data-driven but also ethically informed.
Bridging philosophy and ecology: Ethical decision-making in wild salmonid conservation
University of St Andrews with Dr Fergus Chadwick
PhD aim:
Bridging philosophy and ecology: Ethical decision-making in wild salmonid conservation.
PhD objectives:
- Use philosophical tools to analyse ethical dilemmas in salmonid conservation.
- Develop Bayesian hierarchical models that integrate multiple data sources to estimate salmonid abundance.
- Propose an integrated framework for combining statistical models with analytic philosophy to navigate conservation intervention decisions.
