To remove barriers to postgraduate research, NETGAIN has established two alternative recruitment pathways for Home-award-eligible applicants.

- WIDENING PARTICIPATION PATHWAY
Designed to reduce barriers that typically affect competitiveness due to lack of opportunity rather than differences in ability. Eligibility is restricted to individuals who identify as BAME and/or who have a UK childhood postcode (under 18 years) or school postcode classified in Quintile 1 or 2 of the POLAR4 category.

- INDUSTRY-SPONSORED PATHWAY
Designed to support professionals working in industry to undertake a doctorate alongside their role. The sponsoring organisation funds the PhD studentship, and the candidate completes a research project that is both scientifically rigorous and directly relevant to the organisation’s priorities while remaining in employment.
