We are pleased to announce the third and final call for NETGAIN PhD project proposals from supervisory teams.
NETGAIN is dedicated to advancing the science and practice of nature markets, and through this call, we invite you to help shape the next generation of research and training in this field. In this round, we anticipate funding approximately 20 PhD studentships across our four partner institutions: St Andrews, Aberdeen, Durham, and Glasgow, beginning in Academic Year 2027/2028.

Details and eligibility
The deadline for project proposals is Monday, 9th November 2026 at noon, 12 pm UTC, and we aim to inform applicants of outcome in the week beginning Monday, 30th November.
The proposal form has the following sections:
| Supervisory team | A team of three to five supervisors, including academics from at least two academic partner institutions and one named individual from an external partner organisation. One academic supervisor should have demonstrated “ecology and environmental” expertise, and the other should have demonstrated expertise in any other NETGAIN-relevant discipline. |
| Project summary | A project summary that includes explicitly defined objectives and scope (max 400 words). |
| Relevance statement | Describe how the project fits the NETGAIN vision (max 300 words). |
| Interdisciplinarity and co-creation | Describing the project’s collaborative aspects and each supervisor’s contributions (max 300 words). |
